City Center Residential today announced plans to develop a 120-unit apartment building at 9th and Hamilton streets and a 78-unit addition to that building at 9th and Maple streets in downtown Allentown. The Allentown Planning Commission approved the project today.
City Center is converting the nine-story former Holiday Inn, the contents of which it donated to local nonprofits, into a residential tower known as Cityplace. Cityplace will be the company’s tallest residential building. An addition to the building’s south side will contain 78 additional apartments surrounding a courtyard. Cityplace will offer studio, one-bedroom and two apartments.
Cityplace’s design finishes and amenities will parallel the high-quality features City Center Residential properties are known for, but the building’s rental rates will be lower. Some of the unique features included in the adaptive reuse complex include:
- Exposed concrete ceilings in the north tower.
- Wood-plank luxury vinyl tile flooring throughout.
- Ultra large windows with stunning city and mountain views.
- More creative industrial feel than City Center Residential’s other properties.
The first floor will contain more than 20,000 square feet of office, retail and amenity space. Cityplace will also feature retail frontage on Hamilton Street and additional space on 9th Street. Residents will have direct access to the parking deck off Maple Street behind the building.
“Cityplace is our answer to those who want to live comfortably in a cool, urban setting and enjoy great amenities but at a lower price point,” said Zachary Sienicki, vice president of City Center Residential. “Cityplace will feel almost like a modern boutique hotel, offering a neat lobby, a resident lounge, a fitness center and attractive Juliet balconies along Hamilton Street.”
Construction at Cityplace is underway with move-ins planned to begin in the tower in early 2020 and in the addition in the fall of 2020. Follow the project at www.CityplaceAllentown.com or on Facebook and Instagram at @CityplaceAllentown.
